World Bank: Kosovo needs a combination of energy sources

Kosovo needs a combination of electricity production from power plants and new renewable energy sources, says a report by the World Bank (WB), presented on Friday in Prishtina.

Although the lignite option is cheaper, the combination of energy production from coal and other alternative forms is seen as the best option by World Bank experts. While presenting the report, World Bank expert Mohinder Gulati said: “Kosovo needs a combination of options for electricity supply by power plants and new renewable energy sources and not for one single option”.

The Minister of Economic Development, Besim Beqaj said: “In terms of building new capacities, apart from the possibility of lignite production, we are interested to take all the necessary measures to develop other alternatives for renewable energy, which are a fundamental prerequisite of the EU but also the World Bank”.
