Tender on “Kosovo C” by the end of the year

Prishtinë, August 3, 2007 – The Ministry of Energy and Mining (MEM) has started the second phase of the “Kosovo C” project. The director of the mining department, Lorik Haxhiu, stressed that after a meeting of the Steering Committee of the project the international tender on this project will be announced by the end of the year.

The Steering Committee of the project has signed the contracts with the selected consultant companies that will deal with the preparation of the tender and the selection of the investor that will build power plant Kosovo C.

The three selected companies are: “PricewaterhouseCoopersLLP” from England, “Hunton& Williams” from USA and “Energy Resources Management” from Italy. The technical support for preparing the tender documentation is covered by a grant of the World Bank with $8,5m.

Four out of ten companies and consortiums that have expressed their interest for construction of power plant Kosova C and who have met the qualification criteria are: the Czech CEZ/AES Corporation, the German RWE Power AG, the US-German Consortium EnBW/WGI the and Italian-Greek-American consortium Enel/Sencap.

Kosovo has the fifth largest lignite reserves in the world. The construction of the new power plant Kosova C is expected to make Kosovo a key player in the energy market of the Southeast Europe.
