Prishtina airport to be partially certified

Prishtina, 17 March 2004 –At the beginning of April Iceland will give a partial certification to Prishtina Airport to continue international operations, Kosovar Daily “Zëri“ reported. The partial certification is a result of airport’s failure to timely meet some International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

Afrim Aziri, Director of Air Traffic control, told the paper that the airport lightning, runway fencing, radar, navigation equipment, certification and licensing of staff are some of the standards the airport was unable to meet due to lack of funds.

Kosovo Trust Agency (KTA), which took over airport control after KFOR transferred the competences to UNMIK, has requested 30 million euro from the Kosovo budget surplus for the implementation of these projects.
