UN asks for ‘standardization’ of privatization in Kosovo

Prishtina, 17 March 2004 – Referring to official sources “Kosova Sot” reports that UN Legal Office in New York is not fully informed about the chaos in the privatization process in Kosovo. The legal difficulties generated by the experts within KTA and heads of privatization are unknown to the UN. Therefore, the UN Under Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Marie Guéhenno has advised that the process be functionalized as soon as possible.

“The problem lies in the fact that for five months, Lambsdorff and Fucci have complicated the process which initially had gotten off to a good start. I doubt that the latest changes in the operational policies have been done in accordance with the instructions of the UN Legal Office in New York. They were suggestions of these two people,” the same source is quoted as saying.

In a related news, “Kosova Sot” informs that with the invitation of the Chairman of the Kosovo Trust Agency Board, Nicholaus Graf Lambsdorff, the KTA, representatives of local institutions and international community have met yesterday with the new owners of 16 socially owned enterprises over cocktails.
