PM Rexhepi: NY is just another excuse for delays in privatization

Prishtina, 10 June 2004 – According to spokespeople of Kosovo Government and UNMIK, no one from the local government will take part in this week’s meeting at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, which will focus on privatization and other KTA – related matters.

“So far no one from the Government has been invited to take part in the New York meeting, and we don’t believe that we will be invited,” said Mimoza Kusari, spokeswoman for the Kosovo Government. Kusari also said that Prime Minister Rexhepi believes that this trip was yet another excuse for delays in privatization.

The Kosovo Government was also disappointed about the fact that the Board meeting of the KTA scheduled for last week was not held, as was promised previously by PDSRSG Brayshaw, media reported. After the ultimatum of May failed, the Prime Minister has put another deadline for the end of June.

Kosovar Media reported that Prime Minister Rexhepi has announced the possibility that the Government could leave the Kosovo Trust Agency if the process of privatization isn’t unblocked. Rexhepi also said that UNMIK Pillar IV was the main obstacle for privatization.
