Kosovo starts to implement efficient, energy-saving lighting in public areas

The Ministry of Energy and Mining of Kosovo has signed an agreement with German GTZ, five municipalities in Kosovo, the Rectorate of the University of Pristina, a primary school “Musa Zajmi” in Gjilan and Pristina Student Centre for efficient lighting in public buildings and modernization of street lighting.

Minister of Energy and Mining, Justina Shiroka-Pula, said that agreement is based on policy and strategy of the energy sector and EU directives. The project is co-financed by the Minsitry of Energy and Mining, the German GTZ and Kosovar municipalities.

Germany’s ambassador in Pristina, Hans-Dieter Steinbach, has praised the important agreement on energy saving and has expressed his country’s commitment to continued support for Kosovo’s energy sector.

The project aims at the modernization of lighting of public areas in five selected municipalities and modernization of public buildings.
