Kosovo: Regional countries share experiences on privatization

Prishtinë, Dec 13, 2005 – The South-Eastern European Network of Economists and Trade Unions organized a seminar today in Prishtina about the privatization and labor market in the countries of the region.

The Seminar Privatization and Labor Market in South-Eastern Europe is a project funded by Italian confederations ISKOS, CISL and implemented in partnership with the Union of Independent Trade Unions of Kosova (BSPK).

The decentralization was slow and painful process in all South-Eastern European countries, except for Albania.

In his speech, the Head of BSPK Bahri Shabani cited some of the problems that the privatization was coupled with during the process. “Some 80% of the socially owned enterprises in Kosova were completely destroyed. This is due to the discrimination measures that Belgrade regime applied in Kosovo since 1990 and due to the war in 1999. Whereas the Government and BSPK were unprepared for the privatization process,” said Shabani.
