Kosovo C licence depends on Environment Ministry

Prishtinë, Dec 12, 2006 – The concern of the citizens of Kosovo about the environmental pollution that would be caused by the new power plant, Kosovo C, was discussed in a environmental protection conference organized by the Kosovo Environment Protection Agency and held yesterday in Prishtina

Officials of the Ministry of Energy and Mining of Kosovo assured that no new energy capacities would be built if they were not in line with the environmental policies. “We cannot construct a power plant which would confront the EU principles on environment. We are working together with the Ministry of Environment on the energy project,” officials said.

The Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning, Ardian Gjini, said that he was optimistic about the future of the energy sector in Kosovo. “We are trying to make Kosovo an energy superpower in the region, but we will need the support of the people and also of the central and local governments in Kosovo,” he said.

Around 30 experts from European countries are attending the conference.
