Energy giants target Kosovo

Prishtinë, Oct 18, 2005 – Although no tender has been announced about building a new power-plant in Kosovo [Kosova], well-known companies in the energy sector have expressed their interest to build power plant Kosova C, Kosovar daily Express informs.

Three serious companies are interested to invest in Kosovo [Kosova], in the sector of energy. They are American company “AES-General Electronics”, “Siemens”, “Rusall”, and “Basic Element, said deputy minister of energy and mining Agron Dida.

According to Dida, all preparation for tender procedures and documents are to be concluded in two weeks. “But the Kosovo Trust Agency and Government should discuss the time when the tender should be announced,” said Dida.

Dida also said that the Energy Regulatory Office of Kosovo would carry out the technical procedure, while an assessment committee will make the final decision.

The newspaper contacted the Energy Regulatory Office chief, Nicholas Frydas. But he refused to comment on this issue saying that there is nothing new about it and that the office he runs and Ministry of Energy and Mines of Kosovo are still discussing this issue.

Meanwhile, sources told Express that there are some other famous companies interested in this area. “Such companies are the EDF from France, one company from Germany, and another one from London,” said the source.
