Prishtina International Airport to benefit €100 million investment through concession

Government of Kosovo is close to give with concession the Prishtina International Airport (PIA) for a period of 20 years, in exchange for € 100 million investments in modernization and expansion of the airport.

This is the first public-private project implemented in Kosovo.

According to Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, the investor selection process will be transparent. He said that investments will be mainly for better services and infrastructure in airport, including new terminal building for passengers and companies that operate there.

Meanwhile, Minister of Transport and Communications (MTC), Fatmir Limaj, said that partnership is expected to be for 20 years and Kosovo budget will also benefit from this. .

Three of the selected bidders are strong international consortiums. The first competitor is Turkish-German consortium Fraport / ICTAS that together manage the Antalya Airport. The Fraport Company also manages the Frankfurt Airport and shares management contracts with 10 other international airports.

Second bidders are Turkish-French consortium Limak-Airport de Lyon. Limak Company manages the “Sabiha Gökçen” Airport in Istanbul.

The third bidder for the concession of Prishtina Airport is the international consortium “Bouyges Batiment- Egis- PAIC”.

Prishtina Airport is the only one in Kosovo with over 1.2 million passengers per year. Annual profit of Prishtina Airport is currently at around €11 million.
