MTI: No oil shortage in Kosovo

Prishtinë, Jan 30, 2006 – Kosovo has enough amount of oil reserves, so the closure of border crossing point with Macedonia at Hani i Elezit due to the landslide at Prishtina-Skopje highway will not cause disorders in terms of oil supply, the Ministry of Trade and Industry told KosovaLive on Saturday.

Xhevdet Leci, the Chairman of Oil Regulatory Council which operates within the Ministry, said that they have also paid visits to the companies licensed for importing of oil. “They have some 25 million litres of oil reserves.”

“It will not be a big problem. Now after the blockade of highway, majority of those companies transport the imported oil by train,” Leci said.

The closure of Hani i Elezit has caused an enormous increase of vehicles at Globocica, another crossing point with Macedonia which lacks customs terminal. On Friday, UNNMIK and the Ministry have reached an agreement for the oil to go through Globocica crossing point.
