Kosovo to privatize 75% of Telecom shares

Kosovo’s Government has decided to privatize 75% of the shares of Post and Telecom of Kosovo (PTK), while 25% of the shares will remain in the hands of the Government.

The privatization process of PTK, according to Government, should be completed by the end of this year.

Prime Minister Hashim Thaci said that the Government is committed to free market and competition in the telecommunications field.

The government is expected to form a committee for privatization of PTK, while the final decision will be taken by the Kosovo Assembly.

Minister of Economy and Finances, Ahmet Shala, said that the Government is analyzing all legal and financial aspects, while the entire project is supported by the IMF.

Through the start of construction of highway Vërmice-Merdar, concession of Prishtina International Airport and privatization of PTK, the Government also aims to promote foreign investments in Kosovo.

PTK is the most profitable company in Kosovo, with over 1 million mobile phone customers.
