Kosovo invests in national energy dispatching system

Areva’s Transmission and Distribution division has won a contract from Kosovo’s electrical network operator, Kosova transmission System and Market Operator (KOSTT).

Working in a consortium with Komtel Project Engineering, which provides and executes engineering solutions, Areva will install Kosovo’s new National Dispatching Centre and telecommunications network.

Areva will design, supply, deliver, install, test and commission a complete SCADA/EMS system, using its leading technology, e-terra, for the Kosova Control System (KCS) and its telecommunications system. e-terra was specifically selected by KOSTT to comply with their demanding requirements.

Areva will also supply its substation automation solution which includes its control system, PACiS with MiCOM protective relays, and equipment for the telecommunication network.

The Dispatching Control Centre, built with main and emergency systems, will supervise 43 high voltage substations and interconnect with four neighboring countries and power plants. Project implementation has already begun.

KOSTT will operate and manage Kosovo’s transmission and dispatch systems from Kosovo Control Systems, which will be installed in KOSTT’s most prestigious location, the Kosovo National Control Centre.

“By implementing this project, KOSTT fulfils one more condition for membership of the UCTE (Union for Coordinated Transmission of Electricity in Europe) and other trade organizations, which have been established to synchronize the European power system,” said KOSTT CEO, Fadil Ismajli.
