Kosovo: IMF foresees slight economic growth in 2006

Prishtina, August 4, 2005 – Today the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission in Kosovo urged local government officials to be careful with expenses during the second part of the 2005 fiscal year so that they can ensure slight economic growth.

Official at the IMF Mission in Kosovo Marc Auboin said that the institution predicts slight economic growth in 2006 because of the tendency toward revitalization in the fields of construction and agriculture.

But he also said that tax collection must increase and that the support of foreign donors is necessary if Kosovo’s economy is to move forward.

Auboin said that Kosovo should be able to rely on its own budget, adding that the IMF has recommended avoiding budgetary deficit.
