Kosovo: government bans imports of low quality fuel

Prishtina, 22 April 2007 – Kosovar media reported on the first effects of the administrative order 2006/16 of the Ministry of Trade and Industry. This order obliges Customs Service to require a Conformity Certificate, determining the quality of petrol for imports into Kosovo.

Due to the low quality of the petrol, the Greek refinery “Okta”, based in Skopje (Macedonia) did not manage to export some 80 tanks of petrol into Kosovo.

According to newspaper Express, “Okta” covers over 90% of the fuel market in Kosovo. The daily reports that the fuel contains excess amounts of sulphur and other ingredients that may cause cancer.
