Kosovo and Albania liberalize trade exchange

Prishtinë, Sept 28, 2006 – As of January of 2007, customs tariff zero will be applied for all products included in the Free Trade Agreement between Kosovo and Albania.

Officials of the Ministry of Trade and Industry from both countries meet on a more regular basis in order to prepare the legislation according to EU recommendations on free regional trade and wider.

“The joint platform is to follow the EU directives,” stated Ilir Kurti from Albania’s Ministry of Trade and Industry.

A liberal trade requires adequate measures for the protection of customers, a defined program that is lacking in Kosovo.

“Albania has a strategy on costumer protection which is currently being approved,” stated Kosovo Deputy Minister of Trade, Sali Ibishi. Concrete steps in creating legal mechanisms for costumer protection are expected to take place during the last three months of the year.
