Prishtina, 23 August 2007 – Yesterday, the Kosovo Trust Agency – KTA, responsible for the privatization process in Kosovo, has opened the bids for the 27th wave of privatization. There were 93 bids submitted for 21 so called “Socially Owned Enterprises” (SOEs), mostly agricultural land and shops. The company sold for the highest price was “Kosova Elektro”, sold for € 1,651,000, whereas five companies had less than three bidders. Regarding these five SOEs, the KTA Board will decide whether to continue with the process or to re-tender them.
According to Ahmet Shala, the KTA Deputy Director, the privatisation process has collected € 380 million by now. He also said that procedures should be amended to enable faster payment of 20% for the former workers. Until now, KTA has sold 524 SOEs.
