USAID to support energy sector in Kosovo

Prishtinë, Aug 14, 2006 – Following the meeting held with Minister of Energy and Mining Ethem Çeku, the Chief of the US Mission in Kosovo, Tina Kaidanow, said that US Government and USAID will support the long-term development of the energy sector in Kosovo. She also made an appeal to all Kosovo citizens to pay their electricity bills, reported the Kosovar RTV.

Minister Çeku told the media that he has presented the project for the construction of a new power plant to Kaidanow. The project will soon be presented to the public and the minister was able to obtain the support of the World Bank and other institutions.

Minister Çeku thanked USAID for being the main donor in the energy sector. “We have also discussed the problems of the energy sector. We agreed that we must work on collecting debts and supplying the citizens with electricity. The support of the US Office was promised for these projects,” stated Minister Çeku.
