UNMIK: Kosovo-Status talks will start in the coming months

Prishtina, August 16, 2005 – The Head of the United Nations Mission in Kosovo, Soren Jessen-Petersen said yesterday at the Airport of Prishtina (AP) upon his return from the summer vacation that current developments are leading to the initiation of status talks within the coming months.

He emphasized that settlement of Kosovo’s status will help the accomplishment of the return process and establishment of the freedom of movement and safety for minority communities.

He evaluated that Kosovo’s Government decision to modify the decentralization plan represents a very significant step and proves its strong commitment to reform the local power.

Jessen-Petersen expressed his regret that Belgrade failed to use this opportunity to get engaged in this process.
