Kosovo: Quantity and quality of lignite reserves

Prishtina, 26 December 2006 – Zeri and Iliria Post carry an editorial written by Lorik Haxhiu, Director of Department of Mines in the Ministry of Energy and Mining (MEM) on lignite deposits in Kosovo. The certified geological reserves of lignite in Kosovo are around 14,3 billion.

As far as the reserves of lignite are concerned, Kosovo is in the third in Europe, after Germany and Poland, but on the other hand it has better conditions for its exploitation.

Besides the profit of money from the “Royalties” taxes with the development of the mineral resources, the profit should include employment, infrastructure, the connection with industry that offer services and goods, connection with industry that make further processing and the transfer of knowledge and technology.
