Kosovo: KEK moving toward Sibovc

Prishtinë, 18 December 2006 – KEK has started to buy land of Hade villagers to open a way to Sibovc, where the Kosovo C power plant is planned to be constructed, Lajm reports.

“We had decided not to sell the land until all Hade villagers are dislocated. But an official from KEK showed us a document signed by Prime Minister Ceku, indicating that the land should be taken [by KEK],” Fadil Mirena from the village of Hade told Lajm.

According to Hade villagers, KEK has bought more than 50 hectares of land and it plans to buy the remaining 50 hectares in the beginning of 2007. The villagers complain that KEK has set the price per hectare (€425 to €475 depending on the location) and does not accept to negotiate.

Donika Kadaj-Bujupi, Spokesperson for KEK, said that the purchase of land is in the interest of KEK to reach to the southwestern part of Sibovc, where the power plant will be constructed. According to Kadaj-Bujupi, KEK is working in line with a regulation signed by the Government of Kosovo.
