Kosovo: Irregularities in the mobile telephony tender

Prishtinë, August 2, 2007 – The Kosovar political party ORA invited the Prime Minister of Kosovo Mr. Agim Çeku to report to the Assembly about the deposit of the bidder for the second mobile phone operator, Kosmocell, amounting at 16.2 million euro. Answering that the Prime Minister said that the entire tender documentation for the second mobile phone operator has been submitted to the Police unit for economic crimes and that the Kosovo Supreme Court will deal with this issue.

To find out what happened, the parliamentary group of ORA insisted on building an investigation committee, but the Assembly agreed that the Supreme Court should deal with the case.

PM Çeku told the Assembly members that in accordance with the Law on Telecommunication, the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunication (MTT) is obliged to prepare the documents of the tender, while the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) implements the tender. Çeku stressed that he asked the Assembly to invite the TRA.

PDK Representative Bajrush Xhemajli said his party already long time ago warned of misuses in this case.
