Kosovo: Investors interested in energy and telecom

Vienna, 9 November 2007 – In the Vienna Economic Forum, Kosovo was represented by 20 participants from different institutions. Ethem Ceku, Minister of Energy and Mining, said that investors are very interested in the energy sector, especially the alternative energy. “We have presented the project of the hydroplant of Zhur for what we expect investments of €300 million for 300MW,” said Ceku. He also added that Kosova C project was also presented in the panel.

Etrur Rrustemaj, the PTK managing director, said that the preparations for the privatisation of PTK were discussed on the telecommunication panel. He presented the pre-preparations that the Government and UNMIK are doing regarding the privatisation. “We have concluded that the only way to keep our intellectual force in Kosovo is to attract investment in strategic sectors and the arrival of big companies,” said Rrustemaj.

Besim Beqaj, head of Kosovo Chamber of Commerce who is also a member of the Forum, said that a big interest was shown for the privatisation of Brezovica. A special promotional event about the privatisation of Brezovica ski resort was organised by the Economic Initiative for Kosova (ECIKS) on 7 November in Vienna (more about this event ).
