Kosovo Government takes over the Energy Office

Prishtina, Oct 13, 2004 – Kosovar Prime Minister, Bajram Rexhepi and the Head of Pillar IV of UNMIK, Mr. Nicholas Lambsdorff, signed an agreement for transferring the competencies for Energy Office to the Office of Prime Minister.

Office for Energy in cadre of Prime Minister Office is founded on August 4, 2004. This office will coordinate all government activities for Energy and will coordinate the cooperation’s with UNMIK in reserved fields dealing with Energy. During further work, office for Energy, will get extra competences and will prepare human capacities for Ministry of Energy. This office will work also on building other new capacities for using the lignite in Kosova.

After signing the agreement, Prime Minister Rexhepi estimated high the importance of energy for development in Kosova and stressed that the next government will be completed with the Ministry of Energy.

The Head of Pillar IV, Graf Nicholas Lambsdorff stressed that this is an ongoing process. It begun during the second part of 2003 transferring the competences to the Kosovar Institutions. Agreement for transferring the competencies in Energy Office, Mr. Lambsdorff qualified as no political issue but as important for policy and development of Kosova.

Continuously, Mrs. Pranvera Dobruna, head of Energy office, presented to the journalists completed work of this office and development plan of the office for the future.
