Deadline for expression of interest for the new power plant extended

Upon suggestions from potential investors, the Kosovo Ministry of Energy and Mining (MEM) has extended the tender deadline for the new power plant “Kosova e Re” until 26 February 2010.

Investors have claimed to the ministry that they did not have enough time to prepare their bids for the 500 MW lignite power plant. Initial deadline to express investment interest in this project was January 29.

MEM planned to announce the tender during February 2010, while the deadline for selecting the winning company was September 2010. Kosovo government is planning to start construction of the power plant in the beginning of 2011.

The new power plant is planned to be constructed near the existing power plants in Obilic. Power plant capacity will be 500 MW with the possibility to expand for additional 500 MW.
