World Bank supports Kosovo's Highway

Senior officials at World Bank reaffirmed their commitment to support the construction of highway Morinë – Merdare. The emphasis was given during the meeting between Minister of Transpor tand Telecommunication of the Republic of Kosovo, Fatmir Limaj with the World Bank representatives in Washington DC, during an official visiting in the United States.

During his visit to the United States of America, Minister Fatmir Limaj met with representatives of the World Bank, Richard Martin Humphreys and Henry Kerali. During the meeting, Minister Limaj, has requested assistance from the World Bank sector investment in road and transport infrastructure in Kosovo.

World Bank officials, Humphreys and Kerali indicated that the World Bank has been and will be still active in assistance for Kosovo. They mentioned in particular support for Merdare-Morine highway.

According to them, the highway is a big project and will be supported as much as possible from the World Bank. Minister Limaj, yesterday met with U.S. Congressmen Eliot Engel and Jim Himes. The focus of the meeting were discussions about political and economic developments in the Republic of Kosovo. Minister Limaj also thanked Congressman Engel for his personal commitment to the realization as soon as possible of the highway project.

Limaj has met senior officials of OPIC-American organization which is the U.S. Government agency that assists American businesses by offering services in their investments abroad. During the visit in the past days, Limaj has held official meetings with officials at the U.S. Department of State as well.

Merdare-Morinë highway will be connected with Albania’s Durres-Kukes-Morine highway, which will give Kosovo access to the sea.
