Kosovar Company establishes IT education fund

IPKO, a Kosovar cellular phone company has opened a foundation for student scholarships and awards in Kosovo for individual and group achievements in the field of information technology. This foundation aims to create and support the development of future generations of leaders with digital vision for Kosovo.

“IPKO Foundation will provide scholarships for education, and rewards for entrepreneurs to form innovative partnerships to help students and entrepreneurs with digital vision for Kosovo”, the officials at the company say.

Scholarships,“ the next generation of innovation,” IPKO officials say, are for students in the last two years of their studies at the University of Prishtina and the American University of Kosovo.

The scholarships will cover 85 percent of the payment of education for students who are excellent in their studies, have interest and are engaged in digital innovation.

“At the end of 2009, IPKO Foundation will donate “a reward for achievement in Information Technology”, which will reward an individual or group that has influence in IT and in Kosovo, which will be determined by an international committee.”

By financial gifts from the sale of shares in IPKO, IPKO Foundation, previously known as IPKO Institute, has a budget of more than 3 million euros. Each year ,the Foundation will try to spend 50 percent of interest earned from the budget of the financial gift directly to programs for scholarships and prizes.

The Foundation also aims to show a stronger commitment to support local businesses.
