First Phase of New Kosovo GSM Network Completed

Prishtina, KOSOVO – Mobitel, a division of the Telekom Slovenia Group says that it has completed the first phase of activities in the project of establishing the mobile operator in Kosovo. 200 Mobitel’s employees also collaborated on the project, establishing the mobile network, the billing system and knowledge and experience transfer.

Mobitel’s team worked in several areas of planning and constructing the radio network, the core network, services and billing system, as well as in the area of establishing the sales network and the call center. The mobile network had 140 base stations at the end of phase one.

It should be stated that the new mobile network in Kosovo was established in an extremely short time-frame, which made it possible to start the new Kosovo operator Ipko in the nine months after being awarded the frequencies.

The second phase of activities is beginning now, and Mobitel’s teams are ensuring further network expansion and cooperating in preparing attractive new services for Ipko’s customers.

Marko Jagodic(, MSc, the head of the Kosovo project at Mobitel: “The Kosovo project was a large, and in spite of years of practice of most people, also a new experience for Mobitel, as we had a very limited time, working in a very different environment from Slovenia, to plan, construct and start a GSM network of the same quality as Mobitel’s in Slovenia. We managed to accomplish that only with exceptional effort and adaptability of all the people involved from Mobitel, Ipko, Telekom Slovenije and other companies.”
