Some of the main Kosovar Institutions presented on Monday a list of activities intended to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) which are the backbone of economic development in Kosovo. Among the most important activities are the drafting of laws to facilitate business and the implementation of the strategy for SME development, which is a document approved by the Kosovar government in July 2011.
The conference was organized by the Agency for SME Support which is part of the Ministry of Trade and Industry in cooperation with the EU financed project ‘EU SMEs’ and was attended by representatives from different institutions and the donor community.
The director of the Agency for SME Support, Granit Berisha, said that the development strategy of SMEs will serve as a guide to the Agency itself in its work to support this sector
Soren HJORTH, head of the ‚EU SMEs‘ project which helps develop the SME sector in Kosovo, said that the main objective of all these activities is to improve the alignment of Kosovo in the ‚Doing Business‘ list of the World Bank. “Otherwise, ‚EU SME‘ is a communication tool between the European Commission and the Kosovo government used to push forward policies that support the development of SMEs,” said HJORTH.
