Kosovo: World Bank to play key role in energy project

Prishtina, 9 January 2007 – The World Bank gave millions of euros to show how to establish the legal and technical conditions for the construction of the new power plant ‘Kosovo C’. However, officials from the major opposition party said this issue has begun to be politicised, Koha reports.

The paper reports that PDK Assembly member Bajrush Xhemajli said the issue might not be simply of a financial nature. He was quoted as saying, ‘The pace of the development of this project is dictated by the World Bank’, adding that this is just an improvement of a project which existed a long time ago. ‘These projects exist since 1985’, Xhemajli said.
