The Kosovo government has invited foreign investors to participate in the privatization of the electricity network in Kosovo. This process is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
According to the government, privatization of the power network will improve energy supply and meet the requirements arising from the Treaty of Energy in Southeast Europe.
Prime Minister Hashim Thaci said that this privatization will further improve the investment climate and it will also encourage investments in other sectors.
Minister of Economy and Finance, Ahmet Shala, said that the privatization of this company will be transparent and fair to all bidders.
Privatization of the power supply system will be controlled by the transaction advisors, both local and international.
Energy capacities in Kosovo are still state owned, but the government intends to privatize this sector.
In addition to the power network, Kosovo further plans to privatize the existing power plants, coal mines and also intends to attract investors for the construction of a new power plant with the capacity of 1000 Megawatts.
