Prishtinë, March 10, 2006 – Only some minor changes of the previous composition of the Kosovo Government seems to satisfy the ruling coalition of LDK and AAK, as the election of the new government from the parliament is scheduled for today. The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) decided to trust the post of the Deputy Prime Minister to Lutfi Haziri, and proposed Fatmir Rexhepi for the post of the Interior Minister. Following the meting of the LDK Board, the Principal Deputy Chairman of the party Eqrem Kryeziu said that the other ministers will continue to carry out their duties.
“The changes were made by consensus,” Kryeziu said, and added that the only reason to remove Salihaj is that “LDK wanted to make changes.”
On the other hand, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), the coalition partner of LDK, will change none of the ministers coming from this party. AAK has proposed Jonuz Salihaj for the post of the Minister of Justice.
It seems that the representatives of minorities, Slavisa Petkovic and Sadik Idriz, will also continue to perform their duties in the post of the Minister of Returns and Communities, respectively Minister of Health.
The nominated Prime Minister, Lt. General Agim Ceku said on Wednesday that he agrees in principle with the decision of the coalition partners (LDK-AAK) not to change the ministers of the Government that will be directed by him.
Following the consultations with the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and other parties, Ceku said that he agreed with the composition of the government, “but this does not mean that any of the ministers will not be replaced in the future for lack of efficiency,” he added.
“I have agreed to start with this composition. However, we signed a statement, by which we agreed to evaluate from time to time the work of every minister, and by which I am authorized to change together with the parties whoever minister who lack results,” said Ceku.
Meanwhile the opposition leader Hashim Thaçi called on the government coalition partners (LDK- and AAK) to make the right decisions in forming the new government, and not to make experiments.
“My message for the friends of the governmental coalition is not to make experiments, but to make the right decisions in order we can move forward and not damage the political process of resolving the status,” the Chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) Hashim Thaci said following a meeting with the Head of the French Office, Thierry Reynard on Wednesday.
Thaci said that PDK, from its side, will continue to play an important role in acceleration of the status process.
The Chairman of ORA Veton Surroi said on Wednesday that his party supports formation of new Government if the corrupted ministers are not in his list.
