Prishtina, 16 January 2007 – Deputy Minister of Energy and Mining, Agron Dida, presented yesterday to Obiliq/Obilic municipal officials and Sibovc residents the strategy on the construction of a new power plant, its objectives and benefits.
Dida said the project includes not only the construction of a new power plant, but also the rehabilitation of Kosovo A. “A lot of investments are necessary in the energy sector to protect citizens from environmental pollution,” said Dida.
Dida also emphasized that the project was based on the best international practices
in terms of constructing such facilities.
Mayor of Obiliq/Obilic, Ismet Hashani, qualified the meeting as very successful. Hashani said he asked from MEM that Obiliq/Obilic municipality be privileged and be supplied with energy uninterruptedly.
Hashani denied a media report that he would organize a referendum against constructing a new power plant. “I was misinterpreted. I have never been against such a project,” said Hashani. “The Municipal Assembly can not decide on such major projects. A few days ago I met MEM officials due to some citizen concerns. We agreed to coordinate and support this process, which is in everybody’s interest.”
