Prishtina, 20 September 2007 – The Pristina International Airport will not be given in concession before the Kosovo status is solved, even though government officials have started with the preparations of the process. The Minister of Economy and Finance, Haki Shatri, also member of the Steering Committee on the Airport concession, said the Committee is not in a hurry for the airport. “The Airport Committee has hired experts. We have received orientations which will be the best for the Airports future. We are not in a hurry, but we are not late either. We have reached an agreement with UNMIK and Pillar IV, which encourages us to move forward. We will not make uncoordinated steps,” said Minister Shatri.
The Head of Pillar IV, Paul Acda, said that the concession can be discussed only after the definition of the final status of Kosovo, but it is good to start now with analyses and revisions. “The government can start the process and the preparations of the documentation to see the possibility of giving the Airport in concession, but the actual concession can only happen when the status is resolved,” said Acda.
Although left out of this process, the Prishtina Airport (PIA) Managers managers agree with the plan of the government on giving PIA in concession. They proposed a plan, through which the concession can be made only in some parts of the Airport.
The Kosovo Government gave the green light to this process, requiring that in a period of 9-12 months the plan on the form of concession is made.
